Also, surely recommendable, though I haven’t personally seen either:
-The opening of the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art on the campus of Johnson County Community College. The first temporary exhibit is a retrospective of work by Kansas City-based James Brinsfield. The permanent collection includes work by Lisa Sanditz, Kerry James Marshall, Dana Schutz, Brad Kahlhammer and others.
-Works by the winners of the 2007 Charlotte Street Foundation Award are on exhibit at Grand Arts, November 2, 2007-January 19, 2008.
PS. Next week–back to our usual slower posting schedule!
[…] Can someone please send me to Kansas City? It’s like painters’ delight up there right now. to the bang bang […]
Seriously, man…I’m gonna have to make some travel plans. All good w/ me for returning to the regularly scheduled postage, Chris. Are you and Mel going to head over to KC sometime soon?
Mel and I are talking about heading over for the opening of the Kemper show, Friday the 16th. We can’t quite decide. We’re watching the wallet a bit this month.
Great photoshop skillz on the old guy from the Benton painting. That guy is the original lurker. We should do a MW Classics week and post up that painting.
Cool, yeah. Well, let me know if y’all decide to do that. I may try to go up one day this week (before the Niewald show comes down).
Thanks for the Photoshop props…maybe it’s time to add a few more folks….
I’ll vote for an appearance by another one-time Missourian—Philip Guston!

Those Vasquez pieces are incredible, that painter has a bright future!!
