Can’t remember if I ever shared this silly thing before: Joseph Ducreux’s “Le Discret” from the Spencer Museum at the University of Kansas. I just learned that another wacky portrait by Ducreux is the subject of pretty funny meme, involving hip hop lyrics and Old English (and Steve Buscemi?!?). Check it out here.

It’s been kind of an unexciting summer, in terms of opportunity to see new art, but that absence of supercharged blockbuster does lend itself to finding the truly-present, easily overlooked charms in the slightly less assuming exhibits around. Christopher John Bostwick’s Do You Need a Friend to Go With? is a small show in a small gallery of slightly washed out works on paper, drawn with delicacy and authority, minus conspicuous mastery that I admit I’m kind of a sucker for.
